Project 3 - Site Analysis

Project 3 - Gallery/Shop House at King St., Newtown.

Site: 12 Erskineville Road, Newtown

Rather than focusing on King Street, I have been looking for the meaning of a gallery in the image of the whole Newtown community. The gallery is mean to be a resting point taken out from the busy main street that specific kind of customers who likes the art would stop and purify their mind to approach the gallery. The surrounding silent and humble environment would be a good place for art enthusiasts. In public circulation aspect, the force of the railway station, the public square to Wilson Street is notable. Together with Erskineville Road which locates the post office as another public building, the strong triangular geometry that expressed in the urban fabric created the spot as the best site for my gallery. It is the heart but the subtle corner of Newtown.
